SCALLOP

by CHIHULY for the rug company

To celebrate craftsmanship, renowned studio glass artist Dale Chihuly has collaborated with The Rug Company on a second collection, Masterpieces II.

Dale Chihuly is an American artist who revolutionised the studio glass movement and elevated perceptions of the glass medium.

Known for ambitious architectural installations in cities, museums, and gardens worldwide, Chihuly utilises various media to realise his creative vision, including glass, paint, charcoal, neon, ice, and Polyvitro.

The first glass artist to collaborate with The Rug Company, Chihuly’s genius, mysterious, and magical designs can transform any room or space they grace.

Inspired by Chihuly’s glass oeuvre, these four rugs challenge the notion of textile craft by capturing glasswork’s fluidity, energy and translucency through wool and silk.

His bold, enticing and immersive artworks have invigorated the world’s greatest institutions, famed streets and ornate gardens with a distinct otherworldliness.

Scallop is inspired by Chihuly’s Macchia series, which explores unexpected colour combinations with brightly coloured spots. Reminiscent of the movement of water, Scallop presents a monochrome motif with blue accents. Handknotted in a blend of Tibetan wool and silk, Scallop features 12 gentle hues to recreate the delicate transparency of glass.
